What are kidneys and how do they work?

NOTE Confidence: 0.9696750044822693

00:00:05.720 --> 00:00:08.283
Many people know that they have two kidneys, but they

NOTE Confidence: 0.9696750044822693

00:00:08.332 --> 00:00:09.879
don't really know how they work.

NOTE Confidence: 0.9688050150871277

00:00:10.480 --> 00:00:13.491
Kidneys are critical organs in your body, and it's important

NOTE Confidence: 0.9688050150871277

00:00:13.541 --> 00:00:15.600
to know what they do to keep you healthy.

00:00:16.200 --> 00:00:17.280
Here's what you should know.

NOTE Confidence: 0.9504919052124023

00:00:17.800 --> 00:00:20.437
Both kidneys are located in your lower back and are

NOTE Confidence: 0.9504919052124023

00:00:20.488 --> 00:00:22.039
each about the size of a fist.

NOTE Confidence: 0.9570072293281555

00:00:22.800 --> 00:00:25.290
After you eat or drink, your body absorbs all the

NOTE Confidence: 0.9570072293281555

00:00:25.341 --> 00:00:27.679
nutrients it needs and the rest becomes waste.

NOTE Confidence: 0.9599670767784119

00:00:28.280 --> 00:00:30.926
Sometimes this waste gets into your blood and needs to

NOTE Confidence: 0.9599670767784119

00:00:30.975 --> 00:00:31.760
be filtered out.

NOTE Confidence: 0.9685847759246826

00:00:32.240 --> 00:00:33.800
That's where your kidneys come in.

NOTE Confidence: 0.9597876667976379

00:00:34.200 --> 00:00:36.847
They help filter and clean out the blood and remove

NOTE Confidence: 0.9597876667976379

00:00:36.899 --> 00:00:39.080
the extra fluid, which then becomes urine.

NOTE Confidence: 0.9546545743942261

00:00:39.720 --> 00:00:42.380
On top of that, they also help balance chemical levels

NOTE Confidence: 0.9546545743942261

00:00:42.429 --> 00:00:43.759
and control blood pressure.

NOTE Confidence: 0.967879593372345

00:00:44.159 --> 00:00:46.766
That's a big deal, and that's why it's so important

NOTE Confidence: 0.967879593372345

00:00:46.817 --> 00:00:49.373
to keep your kidneys healthy so your body can keep

running like it should.
