Ingredients
- 2 medium apples
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350° F.
- Peel and chop the apples.
- Cream together 1/2 cup of the butter and the granulated sugar or granulated sugar substitute.
- Add the sour cream, vanilla, baking soda, salt and flour. Stir to mix; add the chopped apples.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9” x 13” baking pan.
- In a small bowl, crumble 2 tablespoons of softened butter, the brown sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle over top of the batter.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool completely.
- To make icing, combine 2 tablespoons melted butter, milk (or milk substitute) and powdered sugar. Drizzle over top and cut dessert into 18 bars.
Helpful hints
- 1 medium apple yields 1 cup chopped apples.
- People with diabetes can replace the granulated sugar with a granular sugar substitute and omit the icing which will lower the carbohydrate content to 19 grams per serving (1 carbohydrate choice). Use caution with portion sizes.
