Ingredients
- 5 cups fresh blackberries
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Preparation
- Crush berries then combine with 1 cup water and sugar in a large saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil.
- Combine cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water. Mix well and stir into blackberry mixture. Cook 1 minute over medium high heat to thicken sauce, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and add lemon juice. Chill in refrigerator until ready to serve.
Helpful hints
- Use fresh or frozen blackberries.
- Serve Blackberry Sauce over angel food cake, sponge cake, pancakes or waffles.
- Sugar substitute may be used to replace sugar. Carbohydrate is reduced to 6 grams per serving; carbohydrate choice is reduced to 1/2.
