Ingredients

  • 5 cups fresh blackberries
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Preparation

  1. Crush berries then combine with 1 cup water and sugar in a large saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil.
  2. Combine cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water. Mix well and stir into blackberry mixture. Cook 1 minute over medium high heat to thicken sauce, stirring constantly.
  3. Remove from heat and add lemon juice. Chill in refrigerator until ready to serve.

Helpful hints

  • Use fresh or frozen blackberries.
  • Serve Blackberry Sauce over angel food cake, sponge cake, pancakes or waffles.
  • Sugar substitute may be used to replace sugar. Carbohydrate is reduced to 6 grams per serving; carbohydrate choice is reduced to 1/2.
